Sports water bottles are made through Extrusion Blow Molding, which consists of melting down a plastic resin and forming a hollow tube called a parison. The parison is later clamped into a metal mould where the air is blown. It pushes the plastic out to match the shape.
Exposure to BPA is a concern because of the possible health effects on the brain and prostate gland of fetuses, infants and children. It can also affect children's behaviour. Additional research suggests a potential link between BPA and increased blood pressure, type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease.
